The GOAL Inc Competency Specialist’s primary responsibility is course of study development while providing instructional support to students. The Competency Specialist collaborates with other staff to support data-based decision-making, promote student growth and achievement, and ensure that each student successfully achieves program goals. The Competency Specialist reports to the Content Learning Strategist and abides by and supports the mission, vision, values, policies and procedures of GOAL Inc, as well as relevant state policies and regulations. GOAL Inc. supports an Alternative Education Campus design that fosters success with disenfranchised youth by providing innovative and flexible models of learning designed to meet both intellectual and social emotional needs.
Expectations and Work Environment
The Competency Specialist will primarily be assigned to an Education Zone and be required to work shifts at that respective Education Zone. The shifts can be scheduled throughout the week and be comprised of various work hours and/or shifts.
The Competency Specialist will be expected to learn and master all the various software and academic programs utilized by Summit Education Group Schools and will be considered the expert on these programs.
The Competency Specialist will be required to conducted webinars and use other materials or mediums that support student engagement, and growth. Tutoring, both virtual and in person, are key components to ensuring student competency attainment.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Learn and become an “expert” on all programs and tools used by students and staff.
Collaborate with other Competency Specialists to discuss ways to improve student achievement through software, curriculum and experiential learning opportunities.
Provide academic resources for students and staff (e.g., online, phone, and face to face). (Study guides, alternative materials, tutoring, experiential learning opportunities, Webinars, study groups, etc.)
Provide frequent, constructive, positive feedback to students and staff in a proactive manner..
Support Life Coaches in teaching effective project management skills and setting appropriate goals to track student progress via online communications.
Design and provide alternative competency opportunities in collaboration with Life Coaches to better align a student’s skills and life interests to competency assessments and projects when necessary.
Work with Life Coaches and Regional Support Specialists to help track and support student ICAP achievement.
Collaborate with the leadership to support data-based decision-making that promotes student achievement and alignment within competencies, instruction, experiential learning opportunities and assessment.
Maintain professional yet caring and friendly demeanor at all times.
General Responsibilities:
Assist in student recruiting and retention.
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, and staff to enhance the instructional environment.
Maintain a high level of communication both verbally and in writing with other staff, students, and parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs.
Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, staff, and community.
Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Skills, and Training:
Secondary teacher licensure in the areas of Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and/or Electives or be highly qualified in one or more of these areas as defined by the Colorado Department of Education. As a condition of employment, Specialists without secondary teacher licensure, will acquire licensure or secondary credentials as needed within the first year of employment.
Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of software programs (e.g., data bases, Google Applications, , data mining software) and in using the Chrome operating system.
Superior customer service skills.
Certificates & Registrations:
Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license. Must maintain insurance in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and maintain automobile in good working order.
Teacher Licensure preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time-management, verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledgeable and comfortable working with technology. Able to competently and persistently apply problem solving skills towards technology issues.
Well-versed in conflict resolution skills. Ability to mediate conflicts (e.g., between students, staff, parents, or community members) while promoting the core values of GOAL/RMDA/Summit effectively among all stakeholders.
Understands the benefits of continuous learning and takes personal responsibility for professional development.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with regarding to students and families.

Manage projects and serve as design lead across the all core strands.
